Ian Ross is a San Francisco based artist, but his murals and style are recognizable instantly, around the world. From Tokyo to tiny towns in central Brazil, the intricate compositions reference forms from nature, colors rich in natural luster, complex texture. By working in a meditative, freestyle technique of applying paint to a wall or canvas with spray paint, latex, acrylic and rollers, Ross describes each work as a journey into the unknown. Often painting fast in front of an audience, each piece offers the viewer the opportunity to see hidden images and suggestive shapes that are indeed present in the minds eye of each new person. The scale of the artwork is often worth revisiting, to see how they change in different light, seasons and with your own mood.
Shabazz Larkin is an artist and activist interested in creating images of black culture and contemporary spirituality. Shabazz is a multi-disciplinary artist, painting vibrant portraiture on canvas, typographic printing techniques and film. His practice of vandalizing photographs, overwhelming use of color and bold typography, at times feel like visual concepts better suited for the editorial section of Rolling Stone.
This technique only veils Larkin’s true intention to explore societal issues of race, justice and religion. Shabazz is most known for his “Black Magic” collection, a series of portraits that capture the beauty of resilience in black culture. Larkin’s newest work is a reckless abandon into pop-art — he’s begun writing notes from God and placing them around Nashville, TN.
As a former creative director in the advertising industry, Larkin has worked with the world’s largest brands, from Pepsi to Sean Combs, winning multiple Cannes Lions, Clios and One show pencils over the course of his career. He is also a children’s book author and illustrator. His latest book, "The Thing About Bees," has won various acknowledgments, awards and honors and is looking to write his next.
He is also a student of mindfulness and the head of content for a wellness app called, True Voice. An app made to provide guided meditations and wellness content to specifically meet the needs of women of color and all in her orbit.
These pieces are my miniature meditations on the world at large.
I create sculptures using parts of nature both organic and fundamental. They resonate with the spark of spirit, the energy we all conduct, for our brief time. Most of the wondrous wood I use comes from a forested bluff in Monteagle, Tennessee. I meld the wood with intricate and colorful stones from around the world and with metals that my grandfather collected many years ago. My zen is creating beautiful and meaningful pieces of art jewelry that inspire wonder and connect us all. Thank you for visiting.
